Jeep Autoworld Swim - A counter-clockwise swim that will take place in the crystal clear waters of beautiful Lake George.
We have modified the swim course start. The swim will begin directly across the street from the transition area. You will start and finish on the same beach! We will no longer have to walk to the far end of Million Dollar Beach for the start. The first portion of the swim will be along the shoreline where you will be able to see bottom until about the 1st turn. It will be a little more spectator friendly as well. As you look to sight the finish, look for the Jeep flags to bring you to the finish.
Lake George is the "Queen of America's Lakes" and this will likely be one of the cleanest lakes you race/swim in this year!
Bike - RACERS: Please note that this NOT a closed course. Volunteers are there to direct you not the traffic. Please obey all traffic laws. The Bike course will remain the same as in 2007 – a single loop that is exactly 24.8 miles (40k).
From transition, the riders will head south on Beach Road. After a short, steep climb in front of the Garrison, you will cross onto Bloody Pond Road. Bloody Pond Road is a long steady climb with some flat sections for recovery. It is not too steep but you’ll feel it by the end of the 1.7 mile ascension. At the top of the hill, riders will turn left onto the bike trail for the next 3.5 miles.
The bike trail is approximately 15 feet wide and while it is paved and mostly smooth, there are some divots and cracks to look for. This section of bike trail is fast. It is mostly downhill until you cross
a small wood-planked bridge crossing Rt. 149. The sound of the bikes crossing over the planks makes some good noise. After crossing the bridge, there is a very fast and winding downhill. If you are unfamiliar with the course, use caution as it is deceptively steep. From there, the course continues to roll along without any major hills until the riders reach Glen Lake. At the foot of Glen Lake, the bike trail has a short but steep hill that will take some energy to crest. At the bottom of the other side of the hill is a sharp right turn onto Birdsall Rd. Stay on this rolling-hilled road for only about 500 yards. At the end of it, riders will turn left onto Round Pond / Blind Rock Road. Once on Round Pond / Blind Rock Road, the riders will again encounter a decent climb of approximately 200 yards. From there, the course again gets fast.
The next 3 miles are mostly downhill and will take the riders out past Bay Road and onto Haviland Road. Just past Hiland Golf Course and Masters Common South (home of world-renowned elite triathlete Ted “Triple Threat” Wilson), the riders will make a 90-degree left turn onto Rockwell Road. Rockwell Road has rolling hills as do most of the roads. At the end of Rockwell, riders will then make a 90-degree right turn onto Sunnyside Road and continue on Sunnyside for approximately 1.3 miles. Again, Sunnyside is comprised of slightly rolling hills. From there, the riders cross Ridge Road (at the light) and then the riders turn left onto Jenkinsville Road.
Jenkinsville Road starts off easy and ends hard. Perhaps the toughest hill on the course, “The Junkyard”, is innocuous at first glance but half-way up, riders will realize that it is longer and steeper
than it looked at the bottom. Once on top, the riders make a right turn onto Ridge Road
and enjoy the fastest part of the course, a half-mile of pure speed across Rt 149 and past Stewarts and the Queensbury Country Club (on your left). The next 4.5 miles are all rolling hills with a net downhill until you reach the foot of Lake George.
Once you see the Lake, be prepared for some tough climbs as the hill at Pilot Knob, “The Burn”, will make your ride or break it. There are some more rollers until the finish approximately 7 miles away but you can generate a lot of speed on the down-hills that basically precede each of them to make the upsides a whole lot easier. The race ends with speed.
Riders will turn right onto Beach Road and head downhill to transition only approximately one-quarter
mile away. Be safe and fast.
Run – Run Course Description:
Run Course – 2 loop course with a couple of good short climbs and some fast down hill sections.
Exit transition – follow the same exit as the bike - to Beach Road turn right and around Million Dollar Beach parking lot (stay on the right). Stay on Beach Road and cross Rt. 9L to Bloody Pond Road. Stay on Bloody Pond Road to the turnaround just past Sun Valley. After turnaround, go left down Sun Valley, left onto Rt. 9L, right on Stanton, and Right on Ft. George Road. To complete the 2nd lap go all the way down to Beach Road and turn right, then follow the same path as the first lap.
At the end of your 2nd lap, turn left onto the bike path at the Battlefields and head for the Northeast Promotional Group Finish Line…
New for 2008 - We have eliminated the out and back on West Brook Road. The course is still 2 loops and when you finish, you just run onto the field. You will finish in the opposite direction from last year.
Please look at the course maps and ASK if you have any questions…. Thanks
Transition Area:
Fronhofer Tool Transition Area- it will again feature plenty of room for both T1 and T2 transitions. There will be a Team transition coral located in one of the corners. We again have the wooden Rear wheel bike racks. Please note when taking your bike out of the rack, lift the wheel out before you move it to either side… The swim and bike entrance will be on one side, while the bike and run exit will be on the other side.
